Before you file it away
Scanned documents often carry handwriting that made sense in the moment — a reviewer's initials, a note to follow up, a correction — but isn't useful once the document is being filed, archived, or passed along. Upload the scan (as a PDF or as an image) and get back a clean copy with the handwriting gone and the printed content, tables, and layout exactly as they were scanned.
Multi-page scans
A scanned packet is usually one PDF with several pages, only some of which have handwriting on them. Each page is checked independently, so a 20-page packet with handwriting on three pages only has those three pages reconstructed — the other seventeen are copied through unchanged. See remove handwriting from a PDF for more on how that works.
What "clean" means here
- Handwritten marks are erased and reconstructed from the surrounding background
- Printed text, tables, stamps, and diagrams are left untouched
- Page count, order, and dimensions are preserved
FAQ
Questions about this
Is this an OCR tool?
No — it doesn't extract or recognize text, it removes handwritten marks from the image or PDF while keeping everything else visually the same. Adding OCR on top of a cleaned document is on the roadmap; see the FAQ for details.
Can I clean a multi-page scanned packet?
Yes. Upload the scan as a single multi-page PDF and each page is processed on its own — pages that are already clean are left untouched.
Will the scan's quality or size change?
Output pages are built at a high resolution suitable for printing and reading (roughly 2,400px on the long edge), not aggressively compressed, and page dimensions are preserved.
